Artist + Curator Talk: Pia Camil: Three Works
with artist Pia Camil and MOCA Curator-at-Large Laura Copelin

Join MOCA Curator-at-Large Laura Copelin for a lively discussion with exhibiting artist Pia Camil on her newly commissioned pieces and site-specific installations, which fill the Great Hall and extend beyond its walls. Following the virtual discussion, visit MOCA in-person to fully experience Camil's immersive work.

Pia Camil (b. 1980) lives and works in Mexico City. She has a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, London. Her work has been exhibited internationally with recent solo-exhibitions including: Laugh Now, Cry Later at OMR Gallery, Mexico City (2020); Here Comes The Sun, performance at Guggenheim Museum, New York (2019).
Laura Copelin is MOCA’s Curator-at-Large. For the past five years she has served as Ballroom Marfa’s Director and Curator, where she has realized numerous commissions, installations, publications, and exhibitions, including the 2017 exhibition Tierra. Sangre. Oro., co-organized with rafa esparza and the large-scale solar-powered sculpture stone circle by Haroon Mirza. Before her time in West Texas she was the Assistant Curator at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, now the ICA LA, and trained as a poet and an artist at UCLA.
