Dennis Jeffy | From Antelope Springs

Dennis Jeffy

Covering a span of twenty years, From Antelope Springs features four to five foot diameter tondo-form aerial-view abstractions of Southwestern landscapes, etched Plexiglas reliefs based on Navajo sand paintings, and linear fragment paintings. Jeffy’s work is emphatically contemporary; while retaining strong ties to his Native American heritage it refrains from perpetuating the tropes of “Indian art.” This mixture of formalism and conceptualism with nuanced references to the past makes his output unique. From Antelope Springs (the Navajo name for  Jeddito, Arizona where he was born) provides the opportunity to contextualize and re-frame Jeffy’s exceptional work.
